Vosges Black Salt Caramel Bar

November 11, 2011

Featuring black Hawaiian sea salt, I figured nothing would go too far wrong with the Vosges Black Salt Caramel Bar, even though it contained caramel. How wrong I was.

The caramel totally consumed the entire bar, which made it way too sweet, and more of a caramel than a chocolate. The sea salt was nested in the too-sweet caramel, which was a real pity since the sea salt could not even enhance the taste of chocolate properly.

Nutritionals for half the 85g bar is 200 calories: 13g fat, 19g carbs, 2g protein, 2% Vit A, 2% calcium, 20% iron, and contains dark chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanilla), 43% caramel (sugar, organic cream, corn syrup, soy lecithin, water, sea salt).

If I compared this with Trader Joe’s new sea salt caramel bar, I would actually rank that higher, since the sea salt actually makes the bar taste better since it’s scattered throughout the chocolate instead of hidden in the caramel. Going back to value, where the TJ’s bar costs $1.99 and the Vosges $6.99, I definitely would go back to that if I want a sea salt caramel bar.
